Follow this 4-step walkthrough to access your Apple AirPort management settings in less than 2 minutes.
Step 1: Connect to Network
Connect your Mac, iPhone, or PC to the AirPort Wi-Fi network (or connect an Ethernet cable to a LAN port).
Step 2: Open Web GUI or Gateway IP
Open the AirPort Utility app on your Mac or iOS device (or open your browser to http://10.0.0.1).
Step 3: Enter Admin Credentials
Select your AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule base station from the network diagram.
Step 4: Configure Settings & Save
Click Edit or Base Station Settings, enter your device password, and configure network or wireless settings.

If the default password doesn't work or you forgot your custom administrator password, resetting the router restores all factory default settings.
- Make sure your Apple AirPort router is connected to power and the power LED is solid ON.
- Locate the physical Reset pinhole button on the back or bottom panel of the unit.
- Use a straightened paperclip, SIM ejector tool, or pin to press and hold down the Reset button for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Release the button once the front panel LED indicator lights begin flashing or turn amber.
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes for the router to complete its reboot cycle.
- Reconnect to the factory default Wi-Fi network (
Apple Network XXXXXX) and log in using usernameadminand passwordpublic / (Custom Password).
AirPort Utility cannot find the AirPort base station
Ensure your Mac/iPhone is connected directly to the AirPort Wi-Fi SSID. If connected to a different network or VPN, disconnect and rescan in AirPort Utility.
Forgot AirPort device administrator password
Perform a Soft Reset by pressing the reset pinhole button for 1 second. This temporarily disables the base station password for 5 minutes without deleting network settings. A 10-second Hard Reset restores factory defaults.
Base station status light is flashing amber
A flashing amber LED indicates an alert, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable, missing Internet IP address, or available firmware update. Open AirPort Utility to read the exact diagnostic status.
What is the default IP address for Apple AirPort Extreme?
The default gateway IP address for Apple AirPort base stations is 10.0.0.1 (or 10.0.1.1 in earlier firmware releases). You can also configure all settings directly through the Apple AirPort Utility.
