Updating firmware improves stability, security, and compatibility with newer routers and devices.
Step 1: Download the Correct Firmware
- On a computer, visit the official NETGEAR Support / Download Center.
- Search for EX6110 and open the Downloads section.
- Download the latest firmware ZIP file for EX6110 and save it.
- Unzip the file and locate the actual firmware file (typically ending in
.chkor.img).
Step 2: Connect to the Extender
- Ensure the EX6110 is powered on and stable.
- Connect your computer to the extender’s WiFi (NETGEAR_EXT or the extended SSID).
- Temporarily disable VPN or proxy services that might block access to the management page.
Step 3: Log In to the EX6110 Dashboard
- Open a browser and go to http://mywifiext.net or the extender IP (such as 192.168.1.250).
- Log in with your admin credentials (default username admin and password password unless changed).
Step 4: Upload the Firmware
- Navigate to the Firmware Update or Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade section in the dashboard.
- Click Browse or Choose File and select the firmware file you unzipped earlier.
- Click Upload or Update to start the firmware upgrade process.
Important: Do not unplug the extender or router and do not close the browser while the firmware is being uploaded and installed.
Step 5: Wait for Reboot and Confirm Version
- Wait for the EX6110 to reboot; the Power LED will become solid again when ready.
- Log back in to the dashboard and check the firmware version in the Status or Firmware page to confirm the update.
Step 6: Test WiFi After Update
- Test WiFi in the extended area to ensure stable speeds and connection quality.
- If any issues arise, perform a soft reset and confirm extender placement and router WiFi settings.
